Condo living may not be for everyone, so I’ve made a list of benefits to help in your decision if you are not sure if condo living is for you.
- If your kids have moved out of your family home, you will find that there is a lot of wasted pace. Condos are perfect for people that will benefit from small, trendy homes.
- Most condos in Toronto are cheaper than stand alone homes. This is usually because you don’t have a front or back yard in your condo, so if you are a first time homebuyer and don’t mind the absence of grass, this option may be for you.
- Condos are perfect for people that travel. Burglary rates increase significantly when large homes are left unattended fir long periods of time. This is simply not the case for condominiums.

The Queens Quay is a bold street that stretches along Toronto’s downtown waterfront between Bathurst St and Jarvis St. It was originally a commercial area because of the many working piers. However, it has since been rebuilt in the last few decades and now has high rise condos, retail stores, 400,000 square feet of office space and other developments. This amazing area has 30 speciality shops and restaurants. The Queens Quay Terminal has everything from gifts, home and furnishings to fashion. Behind the Terminal is the boardwalk, where you can walk along the lakeshore. You may want to take a harbour boat cruise around the lake and see the city.
If you want to see award-winning architecture, just take a look around as the Queens Quay area has many condos with soaring ceilings, open spaces and natural light. This area is one of the best attractions for tourists in the warmer months. The Queens Quay has the ferry terminal that boats people back and forth from the city to the Toronto Islands and the Harbour front Centre for the Arts. This is a great area for real estate. With beautiful marinas and piers as well as attractions like the Rogers Centre and Ontario Place, the Queens Quay is one part of the city you have to visit. In fact, it is so popular that is being revitalized to become a world class venue which is very exciting for the city and communities it houses.

If you like dance and the arts, you can visit the Premier Dance Theatre of the Museum of Inuit Art. While, you are strolling don’t be surprised if you are approached by a street entertainer doing their thing. When you and the family get hungry you can get food from anywhere in the world at the international market. My favourite is the Asian food! It is so good!
There are biking and walking trails in this area for the outdoor enthusiasts who have to get their exercise. The Martin Goodman trail takes up two eastbound lanes of the roadway for people to enjoy for leisurely walking or biking. The new pathway is adorned with greenery, flowers and forward thinking. If it is good music you want, then walk over to the Toronto Music Garden, which was designed by the cellist Yo Yo Ma and a landscaper. Each dance movement in the suite corresponds to sections in the garden which include Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuett and Gigue. Every summer people can enjoy free music concerts in the Garden. There are tours of the garden in the summer and you can take your own audio tour.
Other features include an outdoor theatre, exhibition space and the Wellas Rink which is a pond used for skating. The whole project should cost around $200 million and be completely finished in 2012. Located on the waterfront is Ontario Place and the Harbour front Centre for the Arts. Ontario Place is a world class attraction that entertains families and children. It has 96 acres of family fun and entertainment that will keep kids of all ages excited. You can enjoy 30 rides and attractions like the Froster Soak City, Bumper Boats, Mini Golf and the Wild World of Weather. The Cinesphere has the world’s first permanent IMAX theatre. For the toddlers there are performances on the Tree house Live Stage. The Harbour front Centre for the Arts is one of the most visited arts and culture centres in Canada. It has over 12 million visitors to its events and activities.
It operates year round and has concerts, dance performances, readings, films and kids shows. You can visit weekends and any week night through the year. The centre has a large interest in culturally diverse events. For visitors or those interested in buildings used for movies there is the Atrium on Queens Quay which is a residential and office complex. The building has 14 floors and two floors of retail stores. If it is a really hot day you can enjoy the Spadina Wave deck and then walk along to the HTO Park, which has a sand box and bright yellow umbrellas with the popular Muskoka chairs. This area has been termed, “Toronto’s Urban Beach.” I had a chance to go there the other day and it is one of the prettiest “man-made” parks I have ever seen. There were so many people taking in the sun that I had to find a spot on the sand and relax.
There are two more wave decks called the Simcoe Wave Deck and the Rees Wave Deck and the Sirius Stage, which is always packed with concerts and events for everyone to enjoy. If you are thinking about living in this area, you will love all the things you can do outdoors (and indoors) and best of all…most of your trips will be free of charge!

Toronto is a huge and exciting city with different neighbourhoods and attractions to keep locals as well as visitors entertained. Toronto is known for its culture and its multicultural flair that gets imbedded into its neighbourhoods. There are many areas that you can travel too easily by Toronto Transit and spend the day shopping, walking and taking in the sites.
One of the best areas of downtown Toronto is Yonge Street which is the longest street in Canada. If you live in Toronto, you understand the allure of Yonge Street, where you can find bargains from electronics to clothing in the many stores and from an endless array of street side vendors.
Yonge Street is a tourist’s paradise but we locals love it too with the heart of downtown being Dundas Square which hosts many events. Across from the Square you will find the Eaton Centre which is the largest downtown landmark. It has a 24 screen movies theatre as well as hundreds of stores for the diehard shopper and restaurants when you want to stop for a meal.
Nathan Phillips Square is just minutes away from the Eaton Centre and has a huge pool that is turned into a skating rink in the winter for city dwellers and visitors. Another downtown attraction is the St. Lawrence Market that is the oldest in Toronto. When you visit on the weekends it is filled with artists and farmers selling all their crafts. You can pick up some unusual cheeses, meat, bread and other homemade treats. In this area you can find Victorian style buildings, charming stores and unique restaurants.
If you want a more upscale shopping experience then you can visit Yorkville, which is located on the northern tip of downtown Toronto. This area stretches between Yonge Street and Avenue Rd. Here you can find the best from Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Prada. Many locals and visitors come to this area looking for stars. Yorkville is a hot spot for stars to hang out especially during the Toronto International Film Festival.
If you want to relax you can make your way down to the waterfront area which is Toronto’s Harbour front. This area of downtown houses shops and restaurants that are beside Lake Ontario. You can stroll along the boardwalk hand in hand with your loved one and view the beautiful city skyline. This area also has the Harbour front Centre and the Music Garden. More market like shopping can be found in downtown China Town at the corner of Spadina and Dundas West. This area has vendors from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam and other places which explain all the oriental shops and fruit markets that sprawl onto the streets with all kinds of oddities.
Of course why have one China Town, when you can have two. Toronto’s other Chinatown is located in the Broadview and Gerrard area of downtown also with storefronts and wares. If you like history and entertainment then you will want to go down to the Fashion District.
Over the years this area has become the centre for arts, culture and entertainment with galleries, studios, workshops, boutiques, stores, restaurants and bars in Toronto. All the stores and galleries are one of kind and there are at least 40 buildings in the area that represent the largest and best preserved collection of Victorian Industrial Architecture that can be seen in Toronto. This area is great for romantic dates and those enchanting evenings out with its old fashioned buildings and cobblestone roads.
